Module 1: The Director–Actor Relationship

·       This module explores the foundations of the working relationship between directors and actors. You’ll learn how trust, empathy, and clear communication create a space for great performances.

Module 2: Script Analysis for Performance

·       Learn to read a script through the lens of emotion, motivation, and subtext. This module focuses on how directors can extract performance cues from the text.

Module 3: Casting with Performance in Mind

·       This module focuses on the casting process, how to evaluate actors in auditions, and how to find the right performer for the role and project.

Module 4: Rehearsals and Preparation

·       Prepare actors effectively before stepping on set. This module guides you through structured rehearsal techniques that unlock emotional depth and spontaneity.

Module 5: Directing on Set

·       Learn how to give clear, actionable direction on set while managing performance continuity and emotional depth under pressure.

Module 6: Working with Different Actor Types

·       Understand and adapt to the different working styles, training backgrounds, and temperaments of actors.

Module 7: Performance and the Camera

·       Explore the relationship between performance and camera techniques. Learn how to shape an actor’s work with framing, movement, and visual focus.

Module 8: The Director as Performance Editor

·       Discover how to shape performances in post-production, working closely with editors to find the best takes and build emotional rhythm.

• No formal directing experience required

• A basic understanding of film terminology is helpful but not necessary

• Access to a computer or device for watching video lessons and completing exercises

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
